  The Course

Occupational Instructor Course Overview:

The OIC Outline is 10 to 14 days depending on the level of the candidates. The Program will include:

Pre-Course 5 Part exam of 50 questions per part.

  • Dive Physics
  • Physiology
  • Equipment
  • Environment
  • First Aid for Hyperbarics

Pass required is 85% and one makover is allowed...

Followed by a practical skills diving assessment with two dives with safety drills to 40m/132ft.

Academics will cover:

  • History of Commercial Diving
  • Occupational Diving - Risks and Safety
  • Standards - UK HSE and ADAS
  • Operational Equipment
  • Specailsit Diving
  • Supervision
  • Training Divers at work

Practical Training and Assessments will include:

  • Surface Suppiled Air Diving to 30m and beyond.
  • Full Face Mask & UW Communications systems
  • Hard Hat Diving & Hazards
  • Safety - Rescue & Bailout Systems
  • UW Skills Training - Welding/Cutting/Repairs and Maintenance
  • Working in Harbours / In Shore and In-Land
  • Managing and Supervising Diving Operations & Safety

NB. Off Shore may be added as requried... But will increse the course program to 4 weeks....

  Benefits

Occupational Instructor may train and certify

From short "Specialist" Occuaptional diver programs like; UW Welding or a Full Face Mask Course to our Full Course programs from two week to one month.... Public Safety Diving is also included... Plus  a short crossover route 4-5 days course to be certified also as an ITDA Group Technical/Sports Instructor...

And we are in the process of creating an upgrade path for Full Off Shore Certification...  Students will be expected to betwen $6-8,000 USD up to $10-15,000 USD per course... and short courses from $1500 to $3500 USD from 3 to 5 days...

As we are a training and certification agency we DO NOT set the fees for our members to charge...

These are based on Industry standards and their private overheads and location. But we charge $750 USD for the registraion fee for Instructors and renewal fees are from just $225 USD per year...

 Who can qualify? 

Who can qualify to become an Occupational Diving Instructor?

Prerequisite Qualifications MUST incude:

  • 21 Years or older with a mature responsible attitutde
  • Good Education Level - Maths, Science, English
  • Experienced Diver - Minimum 3-5 years at Advanced levels
  • Diving Leadership Certification (Any Agency) Dive Master etc.
  • Technical Diving Certification Required (Any Agency)
  • Dive Medic or Equal Level

Specialist Skills Would be an advantage: (Welding, Construction, NDT, UW Photography/Video, ROV, Rescue, Hyperbaric, Other)

 Who can train and Certify 

Occupational Instructor Trainers and Occupational Assessors can operate the "OIC" Occupational Instructor Course Program from ITDA Group International. 

Trainers and Assessors are ONLY appointed by ITDA Group HQ and will be individuals who are highly experienced and qualified both as idusrtry trainers and as Technical Diving Trainers with commercial diving experience of at least 5 years in a surpervisory role.

 

  Best Candidates?

The Best / Most Succesful Candidates are:

  • Experienced Technical or Commercial Divers
  • EX-Military Divers in Salvage and Clearence
  • Ex-Firemen / Professional Rescuers / Public Safety Divers

Although these course programs are "Open" to anyone with the correct pre-qualification and the desire to succeed our experience has shown that the groups above have the highest chance of success.

Sports Diving Instructors may apply but generally do not have the skills required to be succeessful at passing the course.

 

  Training Facilities 

Due to the very large investment required there will be only a limited number of training facilities Worldwide that will be approved by us for the status of "ITDA Group Professional Diving Facilitity" or IGPDF...  Approvals for Training facilities may be issued ONLY by ITDA Group HQ Staff after a "Safety Inspection and Assessment".

We will require as a minimum:

  • Training Pool (preferred with observation areas) 5m-12m deep and at least 25m long. 
  • Oxygen & AED (Spinal Board & Medical First Aid Kit) Equipment on site and no more than 2mins from pool area.
  • 2 Compressers,  (1 main and a back up unit).
  • 4-6 Hard Hats and 4-6 sets of Full Face Masks.
  • UW Communications (minimum 4 Sets 1 per diver + Surface support)
  • UW Welding and Cutting Equipment.
  • Lift Bags and weights various up to 100kgs.
  • Air / Nitrox (If Possible Trimix?) Blending on site.
  • SSA Umbilical of at least 50m/165ft.
  • Resources to train at least groups of eight (8) divers in two (2) groups of four (4).
  • 2 Classrooms with OHP/LCD and Laptop access and sound system
  • Dry Suits and Wet Suits as required for Environmental safety
  • Gloves & boots / Weights as required
  • Scuba Units for bail-out drills
  • Access to "Open Water" training sites with a minium depth of 60m to 80m and support vessel.
  • Access to / or Ownership of "A Hyperbaric Chamber", multi-place, Multi-lock and with a medical lock. (On site or within 60mins by road)
  • Any Specialist Equipment Required for "Specialist" ratings i.e. ROV's, Plasma Cutting Tools, Hydraulic and Commpressed Air Tools, Underwater Lights / Lamps and Torches, Winches etc.etc. 

As you may note from the above the investment is considerable and the returns may also be high but our first priority is to safe and adeqaute training to meet industry standards.
