International Standards in Diving

There are very many national and International Standards bodies including ISO International Standards Organisation (In Switzerland)but none of them are responsible for enforcing standards by law...  Only Governments can enforce the law in their Countries and the only government currently that approves standards and enforce breaches is the UK HSE... Other Countries following suite with ADAS in Australia and the Singapore Government setting its own standards

 Agencies?

Why are there so many Training Agencies?

Because diver training is a business just like any other and in some Countries anyone can start a training agency, there are quite a lot of them. But at an International Level there are  only between 16 and 20 Agencies operating Worldwide. See Our Compare Agencies Page

 What are Standards?

Standards are designed to be anything from "Good Practice" to National or State Laws

Standards are basically a set of rules or procedures to make the training activities as safe as possible and to reduce the risks. Standards Organisation exist to offer "Guidelines or Templates", for safety and the majority of Diver Training Agencies are all very safe and have your safety as their first priority.

Our extensive standards took over two years to produce and are approved by UK HSE for diver Training and Certification and they are reviewed for safety upgrade and procedure changes every year. The ITDA Standards and Procedures Manual is Unique in the diving Industry as our standards cover "training and Certification for: Recreational Diving, Sports Diving, Technical Diving, Public Safety Diving , Occupational and Commercial Diving and Medical Training.  No Other training agency in the world has such an extensive portfolio of training.  See ITDA Group Standards

  Are All Standards the Same?

No absolutely Not!

Many of the larger Agencies will all say that they have the best standards... But at the end of the day it is up to you to decide. If you are an experienced diver for example you may have trained with more than one agency and this is excellent because you can begin to understand that the agencies are all quite different and this is a good thing...  Because of the competition it creates more choice and keeps prices competitive around the World.  However if you are a beginner looking to learn to Scuba Dive then its quite a different matter.... and you need to be careful...  See ITDA Multi-Agency Page.
