Instructor Assessormask or Trainer Assessor

What is an "Instructor Assessor or Trainer Assessor?" this is an Instructor any level from any agency, or a trainer level, who would like to add additional educational tools to the training and certification of diving...

For many instructor training programs do NOT train or teach diving educators how to conduct correct assessments or even covering basic processes of evaluations as the diving industry seems to continue to adopt an education process that is mostly "Demonstrative in Nature", with skills repetition and a attitude of "MONKEY SEE - MONKEY DO"...  Diving students today want a more balanced approach to training.

Assessment is a very important part of what we, as "Diving Educators" do every day we are teaching or training, as we need to learn and develop assessment skills to change and adapt our skills as Instructors and educators... students

Diving students are unique as they require 2 educational processes; 1. Theory / Academic requirement and 2. Practical Skills Development and Evaluation... ITDA Philosophy

Therefore Diving Instructors are required to be both teachers and trainers, developing student study skills and also demonstrate and evaluate the process and safe development of in-water skills...   This is why we shoul;d all understand the process of assessments...

What will you learn?

  • What is the role of assessment?
  •  How can you select the right methods of assessment for your course?
  •  What is constructive alignment?
  •  How can an assessment plan and matrix help you in the construction of assessments?
  •  Is it possible to make an absolute reliable and valid assessment?
  •  How can the formulation of good assessment questions have an impact on that?
  •  What is the role of feedback?
  •  How can rubrics help with providing feedback?
  •  What are the things to consider when performing an exam or item analysis?
  • What aspects should you look out for?
  •  How do you draw conclusions from an exam analysis and make plans for future improvements?
  •  If good students fail on certain questions, what does this say about the question… or about your teaching?

class

This course will offer some insight in some basic but fundamental questions about assessments. Why do we assess in higher education? What are possible positive and negative effects of assessment? And in what way can we make an effort in choosing the most appropriate assessment method(s) for the course program we are training or teaching.

Some leading experts on assessment will be introduced to you and might enlighten your thoughts. Additionally, you will be introduced to various methods and techniques in assessing and evaluating students in training, which will assist you in making purposeful assessment choices and helping you to conduct fair and balanced assessments with standards checks and balances...  This helps us to maintain our agency standards but also to grow and develop our students to meet their learning goals and objectives both now and in the future...
